Getting Started

So, you want to build a website! Well, you've come to the right place. This tutorial explains in very simple terms how to design, build and publish a website.

If you haven't created a website before, Internet publishing can appear rather daunting. In truth, it is not difficult.

There is very little you require to build a website.  Everything you need is available free on the Internet.

You don't need to spend huge sums of money purchasing expensive software packages, programming manuals or web server space.  You simply need to know how to get started.

Here is a list of what you will require:

1. basic computer skills
2. access to a computer
3. access to the Internet
4. a free HTML Editor (i.e. a website construction tool)
5. a place to publish your page on the Internet (i.e. a web server)

There are eight steps involved in publishing a website.  They are:

1. define your objectives
2. design your web pages
3. download an HTML editor from the web
4. construct your site
5. find a web server where you can be published your site
6. copy your web pages to the web server
7. promote your website
8. track the visits and fine tune the site
